Screen & Storm Doors

page 5

Above is a traditional 12 lite combination door with a raised panel. The image on the left shows you a standard push bar screen. These two bars are usually placed at hand height to help support the screen and keep it tight.

This particular customer ordered two doors, so with them side by side you can see the distinct looks you get when you order a combination type door vs. a plain screen only door. On the left you have the winter look with glass, and the right is the summer look.

12 lite screen/storm combination can also be made at extra cost. The 12 lite screen takes more time to build vs. the standard double push bar screen inserts shown at the top of this page.

These doors had an extra custom panel mould crafted around the screen/glass opening on the outside (left image) and on the right side, you see the inside view of the same type of door showing you the brass turn buttons that hold the inserts in a combination type door.

Above shows the 3 doors made in this manner. The two matching doors will go together on the front of the home, while the taller door will go on the back porch of the same home. We did the same moulding on the back door, but placed the raised panels vertically to mix things up a bit. Below shows the pair of doors installed.

Above we see a pair of combination doors with the 12 lite traditional glass insert, and wagon wheel screen.

Up close you can see our quality craftmanship. Each spindle is turned by hand on the lathe.

Hello Reg!

Well, its been a few months.

I had a computer die on me shortly after I took this photo. In the ensuing restoration of the computer, I forgot that I had not sent this to you.I ran across the photo, while working another project, and figured that "better late than never" was probably OK in this case.

I took this just before Christmas. The door has been a real treasure.

We used the glass insert all winter. It has really brightened up the foyer of our home, by allowing the natural light to shine in (We never realized how dark the foyer really was, until now)

We will be dropping the screen into place within the next few weeks.

Thanks for all your help with the project. It was a pleasure doing business with you. I have to say, it was one of the best purchasing experiences I have ever had and the fact that we did it all via email and phone is all the more amazing.

Here is their arched Combination door:

When measureing for a door it is imperative that you take your measurements in the correct place. This is usually inbetween the exterior casings (sometimes called brick mould) that are fastened to the frame and they are stepped back 1/2" or so from the jamb. This makes the door close onto the frame , preventing it from closing into the main door. Ideally this casing is 1 3/8" deep , which matches the thickness of our screen and combination storm doors. The 36" measurement is the correct measurement for the example shown below. You check the width in three places. Top middle and bottom of the doorway and checkthe height in the same manner.
